Backing Up Nintendo Wii Game Saves To And From An SD Card

Knowing how to transfer Wii saves from your Wii to your SD card is something you need to know. Backing up Wii game saves is important, you never know your younger brother or sister could save over them, or you might want to play Super Smash Brothers Brawl at your mates house as you have unlocked all the characters.When it comes down to it, backing up data is always a good thing :)

How to back up Wii game saves to a SD card...

Any SD card will suffice for this. Official Nintendo SD cards can be bought but they are more expensive, I don't see the point really.

Wii SD Card
  1. Firstly you'll need an SD card put it into the machine. Then turn it on.
  2. Click the Wii icon on the bottom left corner of the Wii Menu, to get to Wii Settings and Data Management
  3. Select Data Management from the Wii Options screen.
  4. Now Select Save Data
  5. You will now see the Wii option, select this to view all the data you've saved.
  6. Choose which game save data you want to back up then click copy

Transferring Wii game saves from an SD card to the Wii...

Its important to note that the Wii will not overwrite saves currently on your console. So inorder to put a new save over an old one, you must delete it or use the above method to back up the old save then delete it. Stupid? I know.

  1. Firstly you'll need an SD card put it into the machine. Then turn it on.

  4. Now Select Save Data
  5. You will now see the Wii option, select this to view all the data currently on your Wii console.
  6. Click SD card and choose the saved games that you want to move onto the Wii
  7. Finally select Copy
